As a mountainous state with an area larger than that of all of New England combined, Idaho is the 14th largest and 7th least densely populated state located in the northwestern region of the United States. Nicknamed as the “Gem State” because nearly every known gemstone has been found in its borders, Idaho is one of just two locations in the world where star garnets can be found in sufficient numbers. Boise State University
College of Business and Economics
Located in the western region of the state within the population center and capital of Idaho in the shadows of the Rocky Mountain foothills, Boise State University is a metropolitan public research institution with more than 22,000 students. Within the city known for a growing reputation as one of the high-tech hotbeds in America in the top ten for business, Boise State is ranked as the 65th best college, 21st top public school, and 18th best college for veterans in the West by the U.S. News and World Report. Within the College of Business and Economics, the nationally accredited Department of Accountancy has a strong reputation and close relationships with the Boise business community to provide graduates with a wide array of internship or employment opportunities for budding accountants.
Master of Science in Accountancy (MSA)
With the goal of preparing candidates for a career within the broader framework of business decision making, the Master of Science in Accountancy (MSA) program is based on the accounting principles to foster understanding of the financial, managerial, legal, and taxation ramifications of business transactions. Designed specifically for students with an interest in public accounting to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), the program gives students the freedom to customize their own degree plan by selecting a minimum of seven accountancy courses and non-accountancy electives to complete a minimum of 30 hours. For aspiring tax professionals, there is also the option to focus studies with an emphasis in Taxation to gain expertise in assuring the efficiency and fairness of the tax system. Graduates from the program are expected to become partners or owners of their own public accounting firms.

Based in the southeast corner of the state in the city of Poctatello, just 160 miles north of Salt Lake City with satellite campuses in Meridian, Twin Falls, and Idaho Falls, Idaho State University is a comprehensive metropolitan public institution with more than 13,400 students. Master of Accountancy (MAcc)
Focused on developing students’ professional knowledge, skills, competency, and values for a career in public accounting as a CPA in audit, tax, and management consulting engagements, the Master of Accountancy (MAcc) program ensures that graduates will demonstrate professional values to appropriately respond to ethical issues in the practice of accounting. As a one-year full-time program with an option for part-time attendance if necessary, the program includes 13 credits in the fall term, 11 in the spring term, and 7 in the summer session through afternoon classes at the Poctatello campus. After completion, students are well-prepared for future success in information assurance, tax services, managerial accounting, business valuation, forensic accounting, and financial planning.

With a minimum requirement of 30 credit hours, completing the degree demonstrates that graduates are ready to assume roles as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Auditor, Tax Accountant, Business Manager, Accounting Consultant, Financial Analyst, Project Manager, and/or Corporate Accountant.
