Situated in the east south-central region as the 26th most populous state in the nation, there are three accounting graduate programs in Kentucky that have been given the stamp of approval from the AACSB. Along with being famous for being home to the highest per capita number of deer and turkey in the United States as well as the world’s longest cave system at Mammoth Cave National Park, Kentucky serves as the location of several highly ranked universities and many top-notch grad schools in the South.
Whether you are born and raised or considering moving to the “Bluegrass State,” the following are the accredited graduate schools with accounting programs in Kentucky.
Northern Kentucky University
Department of Accountancy, Finance, and Business Law
Founded in 1968 as part of the Greater Cincinnati metropolitan area on a 398-acre campus in the suburban setting of Highland Heights, Northern Kentucky University is a comprehensive public institution with an emphasis on high-quality affordable education. Home to more than 15,700 students, NKU is currently ranked as the 77th best college, 35th top public school, and 19th best college for veterans in the South by the U.S. News and World Report. Among the university’s accredited graduate schools, the Department of Accountancy, Finance, and Business Law is committed to preparing accountants and finance professionals who are well-respected in the business community for providing important services to companies and clients.
Master of Accountancy (MAcc)
Ideal for graduate students who aspire to be a CEO or CFO of a corporation, partner in a public accounting firm, controller of a government agency, finance director of a non-profit organization, or university professor in accounting, the Master of Accountancy (MAcc) program has two tracks to accommodate all students’ career interests. For those who have an undergraduate accounting degree and are seeking a public accounting career, the Professional Track is a 30-credit hour program that helps students prepare for a career as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and meets the educational requirements needed to take the CPA examination. For those who have an undergraduate degree in a subject other than accounting, the Accounting Practice and Reporting Track is a 36-credit hour program covering all introductory coursework for students changing career paths.

University of Kentucky
Von Allmen School of Accountancy
Situated in the urban center of Lexington about 80 miles south of Cincinnati, the University of Kentucky is a public land-grant institution that prepares students for an increasingly diverse and technological world. Offering nearly 120 different master’s programs, UK is currently ranked as the 119th best college and 58th top public school in the nation by the U.S. News and World Report. Within the Gatton College of Business and Economics known as one of the top business schools in the United States, the Von Allmen School of Accountancy adheres to the highest accrediting standards to provide an interdisciplinary study of accounting and business.
Master of Science in Accounting (MSAcc)
As a newly revised accounting major that incorporates the most recent developments in the accounting profession and changes to the structure of the CPA examination, the Master of Science in Accounting (MSAcc) program prepares students for a professional career in accounting and business at international, national, region, and local public accounting firms or corporations. Designed to produce the next generation of global accounting leaders who are world-ready for today’s evolving business environment, the program aims to improve communication skills, provide valuable accounting knowledge, develop leadership and collaboration skills in researching accounting issues, and enhancing creative problem-solving skills for the ability to think analytically. For completion of the accounting degree to fulfill requirements for taking the CPA examination, students are required to complete a minimum of 30 semester hours in a lock-step course sequence.

Western Kentucky University
Gordon Ford College of Business
Considered a leading American university with international reach, Western Kentucky University is a comprehensive public institution located on an urban 235-acre campus in the heart of Bowling Green. Master of Accountancy (MAcc)
With the mission of preparing students for successful and rewarding careers in accounting through applied, pedagogical, and discipline-based research, the Master of Accountancy (MAcc) program is provided to students who hold an undergraduate degree in accounting or in a relevant area of study. Requiring students to complete a minimum of 30 hours of graduate level coursework with at least 18 hours in courses related to the accounting major, the curriculum covers topics in financial reporting, managerial accounting, accounting information systems, auditing standards, tax research, strategic planning, non-profit and government accounting, and advanced financial accounting. In addition, there is an Accounting JUMP Program that enables students to successfully pursue a Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree and a Master of Accountancy degree within just five years of study by beginning the graduate program in the first semester of students’ senior year.
