Students who are looking for accounting graduate programs in Wisconsin have many good options. The University of Wisconsin System alone boasts 26 different campuses throughout the state, while the Wisconsin Association of Independent Colleges and Universities is made up of 23 schools. With so many choices, students may have a difficult time choosing which accounting program best meets their needs. Finding a suitable program may become easier if students consider the following schools, which offer some of the best programs available at graduate schools accredited in accounting in Wisconsin.
Marquette University
Graduate School of Management
The Graduate School of Management at Marquette University is a Jesuit school, which is part of Marquette University, which is ranked the 40th best university in the Midwest by Forbes. The school’s business programs are among its best. U.S. News and World Report ranks its EMBA program 24th in the nation and ranks its part-time MBA program among the top 50. The School of Management offers programs in Accounting, Human Resources and Applied Economics, as well as joint MBA programs in Nursing, Political Science and Law. Its part-time programs are designed with flexible schedules, making it easier for busy students to attend than traditional programs might be. The school also boasts faculty with extensive real-world experience and respected research.
MS in Accounting
The MS in Accounting program at Marquette University’s School of Management is a one-year program, designed to help students develop the tools they need to succeed as Certified Public Accountants. Graduates are expected to obtain positions at notable corporations or firms. Students gain knowledge of concepts including: corporate taxation, financial accounting for nonprofits and corporations and fraud and auditing. They must complete 150 credit hours in order to be eligible for the CPA exam. The school provides students with several valuable learning opportunities, including graduate assistantships and the chance to work on research projects with faculty if they are considering earning a Ph.D. in the future. Possible careers for graduates of the School of Management include positions in: auditing and taxation, investment banking, public accounting, financial reporting and governmental agencies.

Wisconsin School of Business
The Wisconsin School of Business at the University of Wisconsin-Madison offers both undergraduate and programs in fields including: real estate, finance and accounting. Among its offerings are a Bachelor of Business Administration program and an MBA program, which comes in four formats – flexible, evening, executive and corporate. The school also offers MS/MAcc programs, including programs resulting in the following degrees: MS in Finance: Applied Security Analysis; GREM: Global Real Estate Master (MS); IMAcc: Integrated Master of Accountancy (MAcc); and GMAcc: Graduate Master of Accountancy. The school is ranked 27th among U.S. News and World Report’s top business schools.
Graduate Master of Accountancy (GMAcc)
This program was designed to help students with little experience in accounting prepare for careers as certified public accountants. It is a two-year program, which includes courses on the following topics: financial reporting, business law, accounting systems, auditing, assurance services and taxation fundamentals. Students may also take courses including: Corporate Taxation, Advanced Financial Reporting, Seminar in Strategic Cost Management, Financial Statement Analysis, Information Technology, Risk & Assurance Services and Seminar in Financial Accounting. Students can take the MAcc Capstone course to fulfill program requirements as well. A taxation major is available to interested students. Those who choose this major must take additional courses, which may include: financial reporting theory, auditing, consulting, estate tax planning, business tax law, tax administration and multi-jurisdictional tax issues. Graduates are expected to find careers in areas including: public accounting firms, governmental agencies, financial institutions and corporations.
Integrated Master of Accountancy (IMAcc)
The Integrated Master of Accountancy program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is a fifth-year accountancy program, open only to undergraduates at the University of Wisconsin-Madison or of schools nearby which have agreements with it, such as Carthage College. It is a one-year course, meant to provide students with internship experience that will give them a comprehensive understanding of accounting and related issues. Students enrolled in this program gain knowledge in areas including: auditing, applications, accounting theory, policy and decision making, taxation and information systems. Those who graduate from the program may find careers in governmental agencies, public corporations, private industry or nonprofit groups. A taxation major is also available in this program. Those who major in taxation will find that their program is closely integrated with the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s law school. Taxation majors will take classes in financial reporting theory, consulting and auditing, which those who do not choose to major in taxation are not required to take.
