In addition to dealing with customers, you will be a part of the hiring process as well as a key player in managing staff. You will schedule staff to work, train new hires, handle vacation requests, and do performance reviews. You will also need to know the regulations and the laws surrounding gaming so that your financial records are up-to-date and kept in compliance as well.
How to Become a Gaming Management Professional
You hold a lot of responsibility when you are in charge of managing the gaming operations at a casino. Because of this, it is pertinent that you are qualified for the job and have industry experience. To get hired in gaming management, you do not necessarily need a degree in any specific field, but a formal degree can help you compete against all of the candidates who have one. Look for programs where you can major in Casino Management, Resort Management or another relevant field to build skills and to learn about the industry in-depth. You will also need to apply for a gaming license from a gaming commission or a control board before applying for the role.
The average salary for a gaming management professional depends on the setting, location and your roles, but according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the national average in the field is $67,310 per year. If you are ready to take on the responsibility and stress that comes with a management role, it is time to start researching programs. After you find an accredited program in the gaming industry, you can start to apply for positions and work your way up to gaming manager.
