Strayer University – Takoma Park Campus
Strayer University is a chain of colleges operating across the country that offer online opportunities and traditional classroom experiences for students. Originally known as Strayer’s Business College, the first campus opened in Maryland in the early 1890s and took its name from its founder. Strayer opened a second campus in Washington, DC less than 20 years later. Strayer University – Washington DC Campus
The Washington, DC branch of Strayer University is one of the oldest campuses in this for-profit school system. Though the campus later changed locations, it still ranks as one of the more popular campuses in that school system. Conveniently located in the heart of the city, the campus allows students the chance to commute from homes in Maryland or Virginia. Strayer also boasts a large and active community of online students. Those students prefer the freedom of taking classes from home or completing assignments at work. Students can also complete their degrees through a combination of online and campus courses.
Master of Business Administration
MBA degree programs in Washington, DC typically require that students select some type of concentration. Think of a concentration as you would a minor at the bachelor level. Students take advanced courses on marketing, management, human resources and other business topics before taking specialized courses that relate to the concentrations they choose. Strayer University offers an Executive MBA program for students who have business experience but may lack a business degree. The program is open to students with bachelors degrees who want to take classes online or at its Washington, DC campus. Each course covers a specific business topic like managing people, finances or operations and how to communicate with other professionals. Prior to finishing the program, students must also complete a capstone project. University of Phoenix – Washington DC Campus
School of Business
Established in 1976, the University of Phoenix opened with just one campus in Phoenix. The founder of the school foresaw the need for a similar campus in California and opened a second branch there just a few years later. It also became one of the first institutions of higher learning to offer online courses and became known for its distance learning programs. The Apollo Group later purchased the campuses and helped the university expand even more. It now has more than 100 campuses throughout the country and a total enrollment of more than 250,000 students, which includes more than 20,000 graduate students.
MBA with Multiple Concentrations
The University of Phoenix offers both a traditional Master of Business Administration program and an MBA program with a concentration. Students can select a concentration in accounting, energy management, finance, global management, health care management, human resource management, marketing, project management or technology management. All concentrations, with the exception of finance, are available both online and on campus. Those opting for a finance concentration can take some or most of their courses on campus and complete the concentration online. The program has several goals for its students. It wants students to graduate with a deep understanding of the global market, how technology changes the business world and how to communicate and lead others. All students must complete 36 credits of courses prior to leaving the program. Those who select a concentration will need to take additional courses of up to 18 credits in the concentration they select.

University of the District of Columbia
School of Business and Public Administration
The University of the District of Columbia, also known as UDC, owes its foundation to the establishment of three separate schools in the DC area. The Washington Technical Institute, Federal City College and District of Columbia Teachers College all operated independently in the city for decades. Citing the need for a good liberal arts school that also offered technical courses, the three schools merged in the 1970s to form UDC. The university went through some other changes in more recent years, which led to some of its programs becoming an independent community college. Students can also take bachelor and master programs through UDC.
Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA
The Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) is a program available at UDC that is open to students who apply for admission and meet the minimum requirements. Those requirements include a score on the GMAT, a bachelor degree from an accredited college or university, the completion of an essay and a grade point average of 2.5 or higher. The program itself consists of 48 credit hours of work. Fifteen of those credit hours must come from classes relating to a student’s concentration with the remainder coming from general business classes. UDC is one of the nation’s only colleges that requires students take a course on sustainability. This course shows them how they can make smart environmental decisions to save the environment and cut down on operating costs. UDC also offers a number of activities and campus programs for MBA students, including an honors society and an accounting club.

Webster University – Washington, D.C./East Coast Military
George Herbert Walker School of Business and Technology
Webster University originally opened in the 1910s as Loretto College, which was a Catholic college that was only open to women. The university allowed male students to enroll in classes in the 1960s and made history when it became one of the first colleges in the country to admit minority students. Now known as Webster University, it has its flagship campus in Missouri and operates campuses in other parts of the country. Its Washington, DC campus is one of the largest branches in the system. More than 150,000 students graduated from the university, and it has a current enrollment of around 22,000.
One Year MBA: Master of Business Administration
Webster University understands that students have other commitments and obligations that might prevent them from enrolling in an MBA program, which is why it offers a One Year MBA: Master of Business Administration program. Full time students can earn their MBA degrees in as little as one year, though it may take some students slightly longer to finish. All students must agree to start the program during the fall semester and have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 and a bachelor’s degree before applying. The program is available at the Washington, DC campus, which allows students to gain some international business experience as they finish their degrees. Students can also study business topics while living in Vienna and other parts of Europe. Webster University also offers Walker Global Hybrid Courses that combine online learning with real life experience. Students spend eight weeks studying online and one week working in the field.
